DIY Sauerkraut in a Jar

Spanking Service Roseville

Its easy and fun to make sauerkraut at home. With this easy recipe, you can make tangy, probiotic-rich sauerkraut that will make any meal taste better and be better for you. You can put it on salads, sandwiches, or as a tasty side dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized cabbage, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • Filtered water

Instructions:

Shred the cabbage and add the sea salt to a large bowl

The cabbage and salt should be rubbed together for about 10 minutes, or until it gets juicy and begins to wilt

Press down hard on the cabbage with your fist or a tamper to pack it tightly into a clean glass jar

Make sure the cabbage is submerged in its own liquid all the way to the bottom

Put more filtered water on top of the cabbage if you need to

Over the cabbage, put a weight, like a small glass jar full of water, to keep it under the water

Use a rubber band to hold the clean cloth or paper towel over the jar

Check on the jar every so often for a week or two while its at room temperature and out of direct sunlight

Give the sauerkraut a taste in one to two weeks

Place the jar in the fridge once the level of sourness you want is reached

You can keep the sauerkraut in the fridge for up to a few months
